Help your entire community fight back against cancer! The American Cancer Society is looking for people in your area to help build a Relay For Life event. Volunteer opportunities to work in areas such as: Team Development: help bring in teams to participate at your Relay For Life and then help them to be successful! Survivorship: work directly with identifying both survivors of cancer and those who are still fighting the disease within your community. You will also help plan a way to recognize these patients and survivors as heroes of your community. Logistics: Are you good at understanding the back-end flow of events? Help bring your Relay For Life to success by helping to find a great venue, understanding safety, local government and more. Food and Entertainment: Who doesn't love to listen to some good music and eat some good food in the name of a worthy cause? Ensure that your Relay For Life participants have a great time by helping with planning entertainment and food! Sponsorship: Fundraising is the backbone of a non-profit event, but it makes a much bigger impact with the support of your community. Help your local businesses get involved by sponsoring your Relay For Life and getting their name on official Relay For Life materials! Luminaria: This is the icing on the Relay For Life cake. The Luminaria Ceremony is a unique reflection ceremony where participants light candles in memory of those who we have lost to cancer and in honor of those who have survived their personal fight with the disease. Last year, Relay For Life events across the country raised $305 million that comes directly back to your community through cancer research, patient services, education and advocacy. Opportunity to train and learn docent skills in giving public walks and talks. Includes providing support for school programs (e.g., K12 and college/university). Free training and mentoring provided. No prior experience required

Manage putting together the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation's (BLF's) newsletter. The hard-copy newsletter is published four times a year. Articles are provided by the BLF's president, board members, and other subject-focused volunteers. An online version is also provided, and internet news blasts are produced. Good editing, grammatical and communications skills are needed. Previous experience in writing and working with different media types (e.g., newsletters, newspapers, web-based communications, publishing) highly desirable. Coordination of printing and assembling the newslwtter, placing address lables on them, mailing the hard-copy newsletter using USPS bulk mailing process is also included in the job,

Provides support in scheduling volunteers for various programs and activities. Includes scheduling Nature Center hosts, helps schedules docents for various school and public walks, and helps schecule volunteers for special events such are our annual Kayak Batiquitos Lagoon Clean-up and Lagoon Day.

Ongoing community service opportunity to work on trail maintenance, invasive plant removal, and native plant restoration projects. No experience required. Hand-on training provided. No registration required - just show up on the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of every month at 9:00 AM at the Batiquitos Lagoon Foundation Nature Center, 7380 Gabbiano Lane, Carlsbad, CA 92011. Community service hours certification provided upon request.

Help with picking up trash and pulling weeds. Large groups are asked to call in advance and leave a message. Wear gloves, hat, comfortable clothes.

Volunteers are needed to teach/lead afterschool programs, such as art and dance, to groups of youth at the Learning Center.

Volunteers join an email/phone list to learn about special one-time only events. There is a wide variety of events ranging from the need for ushers for performances at the Schulman Auditorium to volunteers for the Triathlon. Volunteers reply only to those that interest them.

To assist the water department in a variety of ways.

Provide information on cultural and natural features of the Ranch to persons with limited mobility during pre-arranged tours on golf carts. Preferred qualifications include: ability to operate a golf cart safely, valid driver's license, ability to learn and share a high level of knowledge about the Ranch, and ability to communicate information effectively to groups. Golf cart training, materials, orientation and on-going training will be provided.

Provide quality guided tours for adults of the Ranch's cultural and natural features during pre-arranged tours. Preferred qualifications are the ability to learn and share a high level of knowledge about the Ranch, the ability to walk for at least 1 hour, and the ability to communicate information to groups.

Tours usually take place on Tuesday or Thursday mornings.

Assist fitness room trainer to familiarize fitness room users with proper use of equipment.
