Help your entire community fight back against cancer! The American Cancer Society is looking for people in your area to help build a Relay For Life event. Volunteer opportunities to work in areas such as: Team Development: help bring in teams to participate at your Relay For Life and then help them to be successful! Survivorship: work directly with identifying both survivors of cancer and those who are still fighting the disease within your community. You will also help plan a way to recognize these patients and survivors as heroes of your community. Logistics: Are you good at understanding the back-end flow of events? Help bring your Relay For Life to success by helping to find a great venue, understanding safety, local government and more. Food and Entertainment: Who doesn't love to listen to some good music and eat some good food in the name of a worthy cause? Ensure that your Relay For Life participants have a great time by helping with planning entertainment and food! Sponsorship: Fundraising is the backbone of a non-profit event, but it makes a much bigger impact with the support of your community. The City of Carlsbad's "Three-Part-Art" education program, organized and managed by the Cultural Arts Office, is designed to introduce schoolchildren to the experience of interacting with and learning from original works of art in a museum setting. In "Part One," a curriculum guide, connecting into the California Visual and Performing Arts Standards and the current third and fourth grade curricula, is sent to teachers to help them prepare their classes for "Part Two," an on-site visit to the City's Cannon Art Gallery to tour the exhibition with an artist/educator. Following the tour, "Part Three" is a related hands-on arts activity, led by another artist/educator. Through Three-Part-Art, children begin to learn some of the basics of the art vocabulary, and most importantly, that galleries and museums can be welcoming places to learn in new and exciting ways.

Assist visitors coming into the Carlsbad Convention and Visitors Bureau located in the old train depot. Giving directions, reading maps, answering questions about the area for the many tourists and local that visit the visitors center.

As a docent, you welcome guests to GIA and provide detailed information about current exhibits in the Museum Gallery and Mikimoto Rotunda. You will also share information about the Institute's mission, history, programs, and services as you guide them through the campus hallways. You also have an opportunity to assist with the GIA Junior Gemologist Program - an interactive curricula designed to introduce 4th - 12th grade children to gemology.

Assist the implementation of programs to increase affordable housing in Carlsbad

Seeking creative, responsible college student interested in helping to strengthen Carlsbad's diverse economic base. Volunteer will take responsibility for organizing old files and information in Environmental Programs and make choices about paperwork to be filed, tossed or organized.

Assist the City of Carlsbad IT department to map and inventory data connections. Ability in cabling and wire skills preferred.

Willing to volunteer in your area of expertise? We would like to engage your talents on a project-by-project basis. Plan to come to a one-hour volunteer orientation where you hear about the City's mission and take care of necessary paperwork. Tell us about your skill set sand we will add you as a member of SVAT. We will send you an email with the upcoming orientation times within three days.

Walk along sewer lines on a regular basis to look for maintenance problems, leaks, and other possible areas of concern. Training on what to look for and maps with locations of sewer lines would be provided. The volunteer should have the ability to walk for up to 1-2 hours.

Moving donated materials into the Library, categorizing and pre-sorting books and magazines - determining where donations should be routed, tracking inventory. Help us find the "hidden" gems of text" in our book donations.

Tutors spend one hour each week listening to four children read for 15 minutes each. Students are in the first, second or third grade and are experiencing difficulty with reading.

Provide information on cultural and natural features of the Ranch to persons with limited mobility during pre-arranged tours on golf carts. Preferred qualifications include: ability to operate a golf cart safely, valid driver's license, ability to learn and share a high level of knowledge about the Ranch, and ability to communicate information effectively to groups. Golf cart training, materials, orientation and on-going training will be provided.

Help our nonprofit (Regional Task Force on the Homeless - RTFH) provide San Diego County with an accurate understanding of the region’s homeless issues. Our reports are distributed to many stakeholders to help identify regional solutions and to initiate demonstrable action plans. In January of 2010, approximately 400 volunteers spread out throughout the county and counted persons who are homeless. This information is published and provided to government officials, the media, and policymakers. What we need? Help with entering data for our reports. Time and dates are flexible but our office is open M-F, 8:00am-5:00pm. Teach seniors the joy of creating in clay. Teach them to throw a pot or create other artistic pieces at the Carlsbad's Senior Center. A classroom, kiln and potter's wheel are available.
