Angel Tree Toy Sorter

Activity Summary:

The Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program allows local businesses, groups, organizations, and individuals to buy gifts for children in need throughout Chicago to open on Christmas Day.

We are looking for volunteers who can help us sort toys by age and gender and pack them up to go to local children to open on Christmas day.

Volunteers are needed December 15th-19th.

Qualifications:

  • 16 years or older
  • High energy level and a joyful demeanor
  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse populations
  • Reliable, professional and hard working

Policies:

Alcohol, drugs and smoking are not permitted at any Salvation Army Facilities or volunteer site.

Clothing must be respectful as you will be representing The Salvation Army.

Corps' Driver

The Driver will: obey the rules of the road; transport people

from their homes to the Corps and back; keep an accurate and current

list of all riders; ensure that after programming, the same people are

delivered to the same location from which they were originally transported;

ensure the cleanliness of the vehicle; all potential hazards or

need for repairs are reported promptly to the Quartermaster; ensure

that there are the maximum capacity of the vehicle is not exceeded;

ensure that the vehicle is adequately fueled (a fuel card can be signed

out from the Quartermaster).

The Driver is expected to: meet Outreach Van Rider at vehicle

allowing appropriate time for pick-ups and drop-offs; ensure a safe

and comfortable riding atmosphere; that when any music media is

used it is appropriate for use in developing disciples of Jesus Christ;

ensure that no profanity or vulgarity is permitted; be dependable, notifying

the Quartermaster promptly if not available to drive for a particular

event; be trained and certified in Safe From Harm.

Volunteer Bell Ringers

Individuals, families, Kiwanis, Rotarians, Lions and other community groups are needed to bell ring during our Christmas season. A traveling trophy will be rewarded for the group that raises the most money. Several kettle locations. Free advertisement at kettle location with your organization's logo for any group who bell rings for one complete day. hours are 9:00 am to 8:00 pm. Food Pantry

Food Pantry Assistant

Did you know a $33 donation can feed a family of four for an entire week? Friends of The Salvation Army often donate basic needs food items to help feed the hungry in their community.

We need your help to assist in our food pantry by selecting food items from our menu and packing items in bags or boxes for our clients and community members in need. Additionally, you will help us to restock our shelves as needed. Additionally, assist when neended with supervising lobby, and informing clients of other programs and services that could benefit them.

Holiday Assistance Program

Special Program Volunteer

Occasionally The Salvation Army is invited to participate in special programs that require volunteers to assist Social Services clients, outreach promotion and collection of donations.  Special Programs can include Back to School shopping events or events in conjunction with Day Camp, Thanksgiving or Christmas.  Special Program volunteers would be individuals, 21 years or older, who have completed a background check and Safe From Harm training.

Office Positions

On Call Receptionist and Office Assistant

Join us in warmly greeting all visitors and callers, and helping us keep our daily office operations well-organized and efficient!

We are looking for a volunteer who is 21 years of age or older to serve as our on call Receptionist and Office Assistant. You’ll be the first point of contact for many people coming into the building, and you will answer and field telephone calls. We’ll also need your help with daily office activities that will include use of the copy machine or filing.

You will be the first to welcome visitors and callers, so having a friendly, positive attitude is key.  A command of the English language is essential. In addition, ability to speak Spanish would be very helpful but not required to fill the position.

Office hours are Monday-Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
