Monday through Friday, with the exception of Tuesday. From 9 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., social service clients come to our facility for food pantry services. The assistant monitors and logs what items are selected by the client, and then helps to bag their groceries.

Food Pantry Restocker

Activity Summary:

Every other Tuesday, the Chicago Food Depository comes to our facility with a large delivery of groceries. The food is on pallets which need to be brought into the facility, opened and then stocked onto our food pantry shelves.

Qualifications:

  • 16 years or older
  • Able to lift 30lbs
  • Comfortable working with diverse populations

Policies:

Alcohol, drugs and smoking are not permitted at any Salvation Army Facilities or volunteer site.

Clothing must be respectful as you will be representing The Salvation Army.

Angel Tree Toy Sorters

Activity Summary:

The Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program allows local businesses, groups, organizations, and individuals to buy gifts for children in need throughout Chicago to open on Christmas Day.

We are looking for volunteers who can help us sort toys by age and gender and pack them up to go to local children to open on Christmas day.

Volunteers are needed December 15th-19th.

Qualifications:

  • 16 years or older
  • High energy level and a joyful demeanor
  • Ability to relate to and work with diverse populations
  • Reliable, professional and hard working

 Policies:

Alcohol, drugs and smoking are not permitted at any Salvation Army Facilities or volunteer site.

Holiday Food Box Distribution

Thanksgiving Server

Activity Summary:

Volunteers are needed for our Thanksgiving dinner, Thursday November 20. As a server you will assist in set up of the dinning room, serving the food, and clean up after the meal. 

Thursday November 20 from 4-8:30pm.

Volunteer Bell Ringer

Activity Summary:

Greet holiday shoppers and help spread the joyful Christmas spirit. 

We are looking for individuals to generously donate their time by ringing bells next the famous red kettles. As a Bell Ringer, you will be a part of the tradition that represents hope and joy to many throughout your community. Whether you're with a friend, family, co-workers or classmates, all are welcome at any of our hundreds of kettle locations. The funds collected help provide food, clothing and emergency assistance to our neighbors all year round.

Volunteers are need Monday-Saturday!

Qualifications:

  • 16 years or older (younger volunteers are permitted with supervision)
  • Passion for helping our community
  • Must be polite, cheerful and reliable.

 Policies:

We welcome you to sign up for as many shifts and locations as you would like, but we ask that you please uphold your commitment.

Maintenance

Maintenance of building

Under the supervision of our head maintenance man, general maintenance of the building. Including but not limited to mopping of floors; dusting of furniture, tables; vaccuming; washing windows; restroom cleaning; rearranging of furniture; etc.

 

Those in this position may also be assigned to run errands, picking up supplies, or food pantry donations. Volunteers driving as part of their volunteer duties will need to undergo and pass a background check and MVR application.
