    Help prepare food and site for breakfast and lunches Monday through Friday, cleanup for same.  Special dinners prep and cleanup as needed.

    Group that travels to local Care Centers to visit residents and provide gifts at holidays

  • Red Shield Garden Project

    Working on Linn County Lot across from Corps office to create, plant, maintain and harvest community garden plot.

  • Warehouse Assistant

    Warehouse work maintaining food pantry supplies, client goods, as needed

     

  • Women's Ministries

    In any corps there may be all or some of the following groups which are known collectively as Women's Ministries.

    A Fourfold group is typically the Home League program, but may operate under another name.  A fourfold group meets weekly for a minimum of 44 weeks a year and has a balanced program of worship, service, and education.

    Focus groups are formed in response to specific needs or interests.

    Outreach groups are intended as short-term groups or initiatives to reach women and do not maintain memberships.  An outreach group may evolve into a focus group.

    Volunteer to keep score for Youth Basketball games.

  • Youth Church Services

    The Army's youth programs seek to expose kids to cultural, educational, recreational, emotional and social growth opportunities.

These volunteers will be helping to sort through school supplies and pack close to 2,000 back packs.  Volunteers need to be able to stand and move around for a couple hours.  Lists will be provided for each grade category.

CR Packs for Kids - Registration

These volunteers will be processing clients and approving them to receive backpacks.  These volunteers will be sitting for the majority of the time and have direct interact with families.  The event itself is 8am-10am but please arrive by 7:30 so we can get everyone set up.  Also, depending on the amount of clients and back packs, it may run a little longer than 10 so please plan to stay till 10:30am to help process remaining clients and with any cleanup.

CR Packs for Kids - Runner

These volunteers will be running between the registration tables and gathering the back packs for the families. They may also help with areas such as greeting and floating between the area where clients will be filling out registration forms answering any questions.  These volunteers must be able to stand and move around for a long period of time.  The event itself is 8am-10am but please arrive by 7:30 so we can get everyone set up.  Also, depending on the amount of clients and back packs, it may run a little longer than 10 so please plan to stay till 10:30 to help process remaining clients and with any cleanup.

Feeding Programs

Farmer's Market Donation Collection

On Saturday, September 6th, we will need four volunteers to help collect produce donations from the vendors at the downtown Farmer's Market as they close for the day. Volunteers should be able to lift greater than 20 pounds and should dress in accordance for the weather that day.

Volunteers will meet at our building (1000 C Ave NW) at 10:30am and will caravan as a group to the market. Upon return, volunteers are expected to stay to help organize and put away the collected produce. This activity is expected to last until 1:30pm.

Balloon Man

BALLOON MAN

This is an activity where a person will give out shaped balloons. This activity will be located at the base of the hill near the slip-n-slide at Ellis Park. The contact for this activity is Major Barb Logan at 319-522-0262.

One volunteer per shift. 

Volunteer responsibilities include:

1.      Managing the line.

2.      Assisting participants in locating their wanted balloon shape before they reach the front of the line.

Belly Bumpers

BELLY BUMPERS

This is an activity where two opponents wear an inner tube like apparatus and bounce together.  The person left standing is the winner.

Four volunteers per shift.  

Volunteer responsibilities include:

1.      Watching opposing couple to make sure that people aren’t too aggressive. 

2.      Assisting the person who is knocked down get up.

Bouncy House

Volunteers will be needed on Saturday, August 9th to help man The Salvation Army Bouncy House. This is an activity that provides participants with a safe inflatable structure to jump on. This activity will be located at the base of the hill near the slip-n-slide at Ellis Park. Two volunteers per shift. 

Volunteer responsibilities include:

1.      Making sure jumpers remove shoes.

2.      Designating groups of jumpers.

3.      Ensure the safety of jumpers.

4.      Timing jumpers at 3 minutes rotations.

5.      If there isn’t a line jumpers can have unlimited time.

6.      Wipe up any spills, mud, etc.

Bucket Blitz

BUCKET BLITZ

This is an activity where 2 teams of 5 compete to fill a large bucket the fastest.  The game is played by filling a bucket, passing it over their heads and then dumping it into the end bucket.  The winning team’s bucket is the fullest at the end of the timed period.

1.      Starting and stopping the race.

Duck Pond

DUCK POND

This activity allows participants to pull a duck from a pond and receive a prize.

Food and Drink Distribution

Volunteers will be working out of the Salvation Army canteen.  First Aid will also be located in the Salvation Army canteen.

We will be giving out water, bananas and granola bars. 


Three volunteers are needed per shift. This activity will be located at the based of the hill by the slip-n-slide at Ellis Park.

Packet Pick-up

All participants will receive a packet that includes run information, sponsor information and goodies to take home.  During packet pick-up, run participants will also receive their t-shirts.  Volunteers in this area will help distribute materials to participants.

Race Course Crew

Volunteers are needed to help along the race course with various water obstacles and to help with course tear down. Volunteer jobs will include directing runners along the course, monitoring the course for safety hazards, handing out drinking water, and getting runners wet! Obstacles will include a “car wash” where volunteers will help runners get clean by soaking them, suds them up and rinsing them off. At another obstacle, volunteers would use buckets and sponges to throw water at the runners. Along the course we are asking for “snipers” who would use water guns to douse runners with water. There will also be a need for volunteers to help monitor the water obstacle course. And lastly, volunteers will be needed to help monitor the giant slip-n-slide at the end of the race course.

Race Day Set-up

Volunteers are needed to help set up the race course. Individual tasks would include marking the course with cones and signs, moving water hoses to designated areas, marking potholes that could be hazardous to runners, setting up the obstacles (such as the slip-n-slide and car wash), and other duties as assigned.

Sniper Swamp

Bring your super soaker and ambush participants as they run through the Sniper Swamp. Your mission: to get each runner as wet as possible! Volunteers should be in clothes they don’t mind getting wet and dirty. Bug spray is a good idea, because the Sniper Swamp is surrounded by bodies of water. If you do not have your own super soaker, there will be a limited number available to borrow for race day.

Splat Ball

SPLAT BALL

This is simply a bean bag toss reinvented.

Sponge Ball Bombs

This is an activity where pre-soaked sponge balls can be thrown at other participants as long as the face is avoided.  Must be done within fenced area.  This activity will be located at the base of the hill near the slip-n-slide at Ellis Park. Four volunteers per shift are needed. 

Volunteer responsibilities include:

1.      Monitoring the entrance/exit showing participants where to collect or return sponges.

2.      Monitoring the perimeter of the activity by watching the participants to make sure everyone is playing in a safe way.

Truck Loading Crew

Water Baloon Toss

This is an activity where 2 teams of 4 people per team bounce 10 water balloons from one sheet to the other.  The team left with the most balloons at the end of a timed period wins.  Constant transfer is required.  Teams are not allowed to simply hold the balloons on the sheet.  There should be enough supplies for there to be two simultaneous games. This activity will be located at the base of the hill near the slip-n-slide at Ellis Park.

Mobile Feeding

Sandwich Prep

Each Friday, we need volunteers to prepare approximately 40-60 sandwiches for our mobile feeding program which delivers food to the community each Saturday morning. This project can be done alone, or in a small group of no more than three people. Volunteers will spend around 30 minutes to an hour preparing the sandwiches needed for distribution.

Please note: While the shift time listed begins at 2:30, you're welcome to complete the activity any time between 2:30 and 4:30pm (our offices close at 4:30). If you plan on coming in a bit later, simply shoot me a call or email so we can be prepared for you at the later time. If you choose to come in a bit later, please reserve the shift listed under the 2:30 time we don't double book anyone.

Youth Services

Summer Day Camp Driver

 

This summer, we are in need of volunteer drivers to help with our ten week Summer Day Camp which runs from June 16th to August 22nd. We have a number of off-campus field trips planned and we need volunteers to drive campers to and from field trip sites.

 

 

Volunteers will be responsible for monitoring and refilling the gas tank; ensuring the safety of passengers; and being in constant communication with camp staff (in case of non-scheduled emergencies). Volunteers for this activity will need to complete a Safe From Harm training course and have successfully passed a background check and motor vehicle registration check. .

 

 If this is of interest to you, please reply by phone or email and I can provide you with more information. Dates and times vary quite a bit, so there is a lot of flexibility. If you have some free time this summer and are looking to get involved, we'd love to have you!
