Late October through December is a busy, busy time for The Salvation Army. Coats for Kids, Toy Drives, Food Drives and the Kettle Drive are among the programs that are in full swing. To make those programs a sucess, we need reliable drivers. Drivers are
asked to stop at varying locations and pick-up and drop-off items as needed. Some lifting is required. Drivers must have a good driving record. Volunteer drivers will be supplied with a Salvation Army vechile for their hours of service.
The Salvation Army of Genesee County's Emergency Disaster Service (EDS) Canteen is a vital part of our county's first response team. Our canteen is on call 24/7 and is available for three alarm or above fires and emergencies. Once the Canteen is located
at an emergency event, it is our key responsibility to provide hydration and food for the responding emergency personnel. Our canteen averages approximately 25 calls a year. This is a very unique volunteer position. Volunteers must be willing and able to:
1. Respond to a fire immediately (24/7) upon receiving a request for support from a local fire department or 911 dispatch. 2. Stop on the way to the fire station to pick up any essential, fresh products. 3. Drive The Salvation Army Canteen (located at the
Mundy Twp. Fire Station) to the fire. Volunteers driving the canteen must have a Chauffeur's license (The Salvation Army will reimburse for the expense of the chauffeur's license exam upon successful completion through the Michigan Secretary of State's office.)
4. Provide hydration and nourishment to responding personnel. That may be as simple as coffee, doughnuts and bananas or at bigger events heating up a hearty stew. 5. Volunteers must remain at the fire until dismissed by the Incident Commander. 6. Return the
canteen to the Mundy Twp. Fire Station after refueling. Restock used supplies and food to be prepared for the next emergency call. Fill out Run Report paperwork. A volunteer accepting this position will be fully trained before allowed to accept the responsibility
of responding to emergencies alone. Interested? Questions? Call Marcia at 232-2196 ext. 227. **This volunteer opportunity is not a JET eligible opportunity.
Join other members of Genesee County's Emergency Disaster Service (EDS) committee as they take the EDS canteen to various publice events. Members work the canteen to prepare and serve anything from coffee and hot chocolate, to a full meal. Members of this
committee are also participants in Genesee County's annual Mock Disaster Drill. For more information call Marcia Heller at 810-232-2196 ext 227 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. **This volunteer opportunity is not a JET eligible opportunity.
