Capitol Gang Member
ANNA members who reside in the greater Washington, DC metropolitan area to help support ANNA's health policy and advocacy efforts in the nation's capitol and serve as a local resource for ANNA's government relations representatives at Drinker Biddle and
Reath. Activities in which the Capitol Gang are enlisted include: accompanying the ANNA government relations representatives on meetings with members of Congress and their staff, attending federal agency meetings with the government relations representatives,
reviewing and providing input on draft legislation, representing ANNA at press conferences or other public meetings, and other advocacy activities. Whenever Capitol Gang members are solicited for involvement, they are provided with all the information and

Kidney Screenings
During the year, ANNA will again be collaborating with Amgen to sponsor kidney screenings at several NBC-sponsored Health Fairs. Last year ANNA members took part in kidney screenings held in Boston, MA, Los Angeles, CA, Chicago, IL, and Miami, FL. Public
participants were screened for kidney disease, and many were identified with risk factors. ANNA members conducted both the health screening and counseling. ANNA's participation in NBC's Health Fair varies in the cities; however, it can be certain that the
following NBC Health Fair Cities are possible choices: Washington, DC, Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, Philadelphia, PA, Los Angeles, CA, Seattle, WA, Miami, FL, Raleigh, NC, Boston, MA, Providence, RI, Columbus, OH, San Jose, CA ANNA needs approximately 10 individuals
for every screening event, which covers a Saturday and Sunday. One member will coordinate the volunteers and be the contact person for ANNA and Amgen. Four additional volunteers are needed for each day. RNs will assist participants with the screening process,
and advanced practice nurses (nurse practitioners or clinical nurse specialists) will review the results of the screening with each participant. Volunteers will be paid a stipend as well as receive a per diem for meals and reimbursement for parking.

National Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Advisory Council
The Council advises the Secretary, the Director, the National Institutes of Health, the Directors, and the NIDDK staff on matters relating to the conduct and support of research, training, health information dissemination, and other programs with respect

Technical Expert or Advisory Panel
Periodically, ANNA is asked by various private and governmental organizations to nominate members to serve on expert panels. Some of the organizations are the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), National
Quality Forum (NQF) and Kidney Care Partners (KCP). This is a stimulating opportunity for ANNA members with excellent leadership and communication skills. Individuals appointed to these panels are frequently national leaders in the nursing and/or nephrology
community. The time commitment varies with each individual opportunity.
