Activity Summary:

We are looking for an experienced teacher or tutor to volunteer as our After School Program Tutor. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working with up to 15 children. Responsibilities will include preparing and teaching one-hour classes that will meet weekly throughout the school year.

The after school program will run from 4pm-6pm Tuesdays - Fridays .

Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older
  • Experience tutoring children 
  • Must have a passion for helping
  • Must be able to work well with others
  • Must be able to pass a background check

Due to the population, Volunteers need to be willing to undergo a background check and initial screening process. Once they have passed, they will need to complete our Safe from Harm online training within 90 days of starting.

Music Instructor

Music is an integral part of The Salvation Army here in the Midwest Corps Community Center.  We have a growing and thriving music program that allows underprivilaged children and individuals throughout Chicago to learn and explore parts of music they ordinarily do not have the means to explore.

As a part of the music program, we are looking for Music Instructors to join our commitment to continue to provide hope and joy to communities in need through music. Our music programs run after school. We are willing to work with a flexible schedule and look forward to speaking with applicants soon!

If you have a gift or interest in music that you'd like to share, please contact Charlene Williams at (312)733-4801 and inquire about openings we have for Music Instructors in your community. Teaching experience is a plus, but not required. Please have basic music skills.

Activity Summary:

Help us manage our most precious resource: Our volunteers! Without the support of those who donate their time and skills, it would not be possible for The Salvation Army to serve so many people in need in our community. 

We are looking for a friendly and professional individual to perform tasks related to volunteer management. Responsibilities include assisting and screening potential volunteers, helping volunteers with the online and paper applications process, recruiting and maintaining volunteers and coordinating the volunteers schedules.

These skills will look great on a future resume!

Office hours are Monday - Friday 9:00am - 12:00pm or 1:00pm - 5:00pm. This position will not need to report daily, but a regular schedule will be created.(CHANGE HOURS TO FIT YOUR CORPS NEEDS)

Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older
  • Reliable, professional and hard working
  • Friendly and works well with diverse populations
  • Must be able to pass initial screening process, background check and complete an online training

Policies:

Volunteers will need pass an initial screening process and clear a background check. Once approved, volunteers will need to complete our Safe from Harm online training within 90 days of starting.

Alcohol, drugs and smoking are not permitted at any Salvation Army Facilities or volunteer site.

Clothing must be respectful as you will be representing The Salvation Army. Pants and shirts must cover the waistband. Skirt/dresses must not be worn more than two inches above the knee. Business casual dress would be appreciated for this office position.

Driver

Activity Summary:

As a vital part of daily operations, The Salvation Army runs programs and services that often require the transportation of goods, food, or individuals to various locations throughout the Chicagoland area. As a Corps Van Driver, you will safely operate the vehicles under direct supervision of the Corps Officer.

This position can be flexible. We need someone to be flexible in work hrs, and available to drive for group trips.

  • Experience and comfort in driving throughout the city

The Salvation Army is looking for a volunteer to assist our Corps locations throughout the Chicagoland area. Your primary duties will be promoting the Corps’ Online Red Kettles through email and social media.

This volunteer will work directly with our Volunteer Coordinator.

Job Description:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to;

  • Promote corps’ Online Red Kettle by email. Training for the Online Red Kettle system will be provided.
  • Proactively create and maintain online conversations through social media
  • Find creative ways to promote corps events to new audiences
  • Track and report donations to corps officers
  • Post events, flyers and flyers in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience using email, Twitter and Facebook.
  • Think creatively; the more ideas, the better!
  • Ability to engage online audiences in order to promote a worthy cause.

 Policies:

The Volunteer must complete the online Volunteer Impact application and pass a background check.

The Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program allows local businesses, groups, organizations, and individuals to buy gifts for children in need throughout Chicago to open on Christmas Day.

We are looking for volunteers who can help us sort toys by age and gender and pack them up to go to local children to open on Christmas day.

Volunteer Bell Ringer

Activity Summary:

Greet holiday shoppers and help spread the joyful Christmas spirit. 

We are looking for individuals to generously donate their time by ringing bells next the famous red kettles. As a Bell Ringer, you will be a part of the tradition that represents hope and joy to many throughout your community. Whether you're with a friend, family, co-workers or classmates, all are welcome at any of our hundreds of kettle locations. The funds collected help provide food, clothing and emergency assistance to our neighbors all year round.

Volunteer opportunities available Monday-Saturday!

Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older (younger volunteers are permitted with supervision)
  • Passion for helping our community
  • Must be polite, cheerful and reliable.

Activity Summary:

Did you know a $33 donation can feed a family of four for an entire week? Friends of The Salvation Army often donate basic needs food items to help feed the hungry in their community. These food items are sorted and packaged at our Emergency Disaster Warehouse before distributing them to Corps Community Centers and to families in need.

We need your help to sort and package these food items before distribution. With your support, we can continue to feed the hungry throughout your community!

A volunteer is needed for approximately 5 hours on Thursday December 19, 2013 12-5pm.  

Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older
  • Must be able to comfortably lift 30lbs
  • Reliable, professional and hard working
  • Pass initial screening process

Policies:

 

Alcohol, drugs and smoking are not permitted at any Salvation Army Facilities or volunteer site.

Assistant Camp Counselors

Activity Summary:

If you have experience and interest in working with children, and like working as part of a team, please consider providing leadership and supervision to our day campers as a Camp Counselor. You'll ensure the safety of our children and provide them with great educational and recreational experiences. You'll report to our Day Camp Director and work in cooperation with other Day Camp staff.

Applicants must be available Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., from June 23 through August 8, 2014

 Qualifications:
