What we do

Some say we are the most popular people on site! Providing riders with a place to relax after a long day of riding, we serve drinks with a smile and make sure the bar is always ready to go!

 

Key event tasks

  • Serve alcohol to those over 18 years of age
  • Rotate stock and keep bar stocked (ice, drinks, etc.)
  • Ensure tables remain clear and rubbish is placed in bins
  • Collect and wash glasses
  • Operating the cash register
  • Setting up the bar area and packing it down for transport to the new campsite

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • RSA certificate
  • Great customer service skills
  • Experience working in a bar environment
  • Be available to volunteer for the full event (10 days)

What we do

We are some of the first teams on site, our job is to make sure the campsite is set up and marked out before the riders arrive. We follow site plans and work together to get the job done!

Key event tasks

  • Install signage and equipment, including flags, bunting and line-marking
  • Work from pre-planned campsite maps
  • Pack down the campsite and get it ready to be moved to the next site

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • Comfortable lifting heavy objects <10kg and completing manual labour
  • Not afraid to get your hands dirty
  • Ability to follow site plans
  • Be available to Volunteer for the full event (10 days)

Work location: Working in the campsite clinic and at first aid stations on the rider route

 

What we do

The care team provide medical care for all event participants; the team relies on a lot of different skills to get the job done and has plenty of different roles available. When applying to join the team make sure you indicate what medical qualification you have, we will then assign you to the most suitable role listed below.

 

  • Motorcycle First AidThey’re the first responders on the road – if there’s a rider in need of some medical assistance, they will often be the first people to arrive.
  • Clinic Reception - When riders are in need of care, the clinic receptionists are the friendly faces that welcome them and ensure they are attended to by an appropriate team member.
  • Doctors - Doctors ensure all ride participants are adequately looked after on route and in the campsite.
  • Nurses – Nurses are stationed at rest areas along the rider route. Along with the first aiders they are there to help any riders. Some nurses will also be required to assist in the clinic in the afternoon and evening.
  • Allied Health (Physiotherapists, Osteopaths, Masseuses)They are on site to lend a hand to tired and weary riders who are in need of some care to get them back on the bike.
  • Massage & Physio Students – There are positions for students to join on the event to get experience working with clients and assisting the allied health professionals.
  • First Aiders – First Aiders provide basic first aid treatment to assist riders to get back on their bike as quickly as possible on the rider route and in the event campsites. They will also refer the riders for further medical attention if required.

 

Care Team Riding Volunteers

If you are interested in volunteering on the care team and riding the event you must purchase a ticket prior to registering as a volunteer and make sure you select to join the ‘Riding Volunteers – Care Team’ option when registering.

Due to the varied nature of the care team roles available, and the specific skill sets required a more detailed outline of event tasks will be given prior to the event by the care team directors.

What we do

We don’t wash the dishes or do the laundry, but we do provide the riders with self-service facilities so that they can! We’re the ones that ensure the riders are camping in style with their creature comforts provided –  readily available tea and coffee, and dishwashing and clothes washing facilities!

 

Key event tasks

  • Making sure the tea and coffee facilities are clean and well stocked
  • Setting up and packing down the washing facilities (connecting hoses and power)
  • Educate riders on how to use the equipment correctly
  • Working in teams to tow trailers from site to site

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • Great customer service
  • Ability to tow a trailer or comfortable driving a 3 tonne truck
  • Comfortable lifting heavy objects (approx. <10kg) and performing manual labour
  • Not afraid to get your hands dirty (or wet!)

What we do

We’re the eco earriors for the event and we want to make sure each campsite is left better then when we arrived. We provide the facilities and education to make it easy for the ride participants to keep the sites clean and green!

  • Place bins around each campsite.
  • Monitor bins and empty when necessary to avoid overfilling.
  • Educate riders on the importance of disposing of their rubbish correctly
  • Where required, help pick up litter and recyclables
  • Pack-up equipment and transport to the next campsite

What we do

We are there to make sure the on event entertainment is set up and ready to go! From setting up the sound for live bands to working with roving performers we are always on the go, making sure the riders are enjoying their on event entertainment!

 

Key event tasks

  • Work closely with Sound Technicians to setup and pack down PA equipment required
  • Organising the nightly entertainment on the event main stage following the entertainment schedule
  • Welcoming the performers to the event and showing them there performance area
  • Coordinating requirements of the bands during the ride to ensure we are able to supply all the necessary equipment
  • Provide assistance to the roving performers and workshops to ensure successful delivery of their performances

 

Requirements and Commitments

What we do

We’re the fun and friendly Happy Helpers and it’s our job to keep the riders informed about what’s happening and where things are on event. We work in the Information Hub assisting with lost property, sales and any other general enquiries!

 

Key event tasks

  • Keep the information boards up-to-date with campsite maps and local information
  • Welcome and register riders on their first day
  • Reunite riders with their lost property
  • Assist with the coordination of luggage and unloading of SAG bikes
  • Help direct riders to event facilities

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • Comfortable lifting various objects (approx. < 5kg)
  • Great customer service
  • Fun and friendly attitude

What we do

We’re the champions of the Live Easy tents - we add to the volunteer experience by setting up and folding-down the tents for the volunteer team. We work together to lay out where the tents will go, make sure they’re labelled with the correct names, and then fold them back down the next morning!

  • Set-up the Live Easy pop-up tents at each campsite
  • Fold-up the tents each morning and transport to the next site
  • Assist volunteers to find their allocated tent
  • Assist the Volunteer Support Team to set up volunteer support and register volunteers on their first day

What we do

We control the vehicle gate to ensure the smooth and timely entry and exit of all event vehicles. We also ensure that all luggage trucks are parked in the correct position and are loaded and unloaded in a safe manner.

  • Direct vehicles on-site and in car parks
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of luggage trucks
  • Travel with luggage trucks between campsites
  • Install and pack-up signage and equipment, including flags

  • Strong communications skills, as you’ll be  directing riders and vehicles

What we do

We work with the event vendors and local community groups to create the ‘Main Street’ area at the entrance to each campsite. Working off the site plan, we allocate each group to a site, assist with their set-up and make sure the riders are entering a welcoming atmosphere!

 

Key event tasks

  • Following site plans and working with community groups and vendors
  • Towing generators between campsites and setting them up on arrival
  • Helping vendors connect to power and troubleshooting any issues
  • Driving heavy vehicles to move equipment

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Heavy Ridged Licenses are favourable

Work location: Inside route control, which is located on campsite

 

What we do

We’re the team that keeps an eye on what’s happening along the route. We speak with the support vehicles out on route and record and action any details of calls made to the event assistance phones. Our job is to be in the know!

 

Key event tasks

  • Answer incoming calls to the event assistance phones
  • Log all call and incident details in the event database, and follow-up where necessary
  • Coordinate medical, mechanical and SAG assistance with on-route teams
  • Maintain communication with on-route teams (SAGs, route services, etc.)
  • Alert team leaders and event team members to situations requiring emergency assistance (e.g. police, ambulance or fire)
  • Attend nightly briefings
  • Support the Route Operations Team Leader and other route communications operators
  • Escalate any issues or potential issues to the responsible team leader

What we do

We’re the eyes and ears out on the route - we make sure the riders know where they are going, what hazards they need to avoid and how to navigate tricky intersections and turns. We ride (or are transported) to our designated spot ahead of the riders and stay there until the last rider comes through, before riding through to the next campsite.

 

Key event tasks

  • Direct riders in the correct direction
  • Alert riders to hazards that may be on the route
  • Clear any obstacles along the route that you and the riders may come across
  • Maintain regular contact with Route Control
  • Attend nightly briefings

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • A proactive approach to assisting riders
  • Assertive nature but always maintaining great customer service
  • Traffic management experience an advantage
  • Comfortable standing for long periods

What we do

We’re out early to prepare the rest areas and lunch stops for the riders, ensuring water taps, water tanks and any other equipment is all up and running before the riders arrive.

 

Key event tasks

  • Drive the rider route and set-up lunch and rest stops along the way
  • Set-up portable water tanks and water taps at each stop and work closely with the water contractor to ensure the tanks are filled.
  • Identify, and if possible, remove hazards along the route
  • Maintain regular contact with Route Control on the progress of the rest areas
  • Pack up each rest area at the end of the day

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • Not afraid to get your hands dirty (or wet!)
  • Current drivers licence (Medium Rigid licenses an advantage)
  • Comfortable lifting heavy equipment (approx. 15-20kg) and performing manual labour

What we do

We are seldom seen but work hard to make sure the campsite is set up and ready to go with power and water. We work across the campsites to ensure there is a sufficient supply of power and water for the different campsite areas and that the relevant equipment is functional, accessible and being used correctly.

 

Key event tasks

  • Setting up and packing down generators and connecting power where required
  • Setting up and packing down portable water tanks and connecting hoses
  • Keeping the water tanks filled and generators running throughout the event
  • Providing technical knowhow to other teams
  • Troubleshooting power and water issues

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • Not afraid to get your hands dirty (or wet!)
  • Knowledge of power distribution and electrical and water connections
  • Current driver’s license (Medium Rigid licenses an advantage)
  • Comfortable lifting heavy equipment (approx. 15-20kg) and performing manual labour

Time Size: 12 volunteers

Work location: Outside on event campsite

 

What we do

We don’t wash the dishes or do the laundry, but we do provide the riders with self-service facilities so that they can! We’re the ones that ensure the riders are camping in style with their creature comforts provided –  readily available tea and coffee, and dishwashing and clothes washing facilities!

 

Key event tasks

  • Making sure the tea and coffee facilities are clean and well stocked
  • Setting up and packing down the washing facilities (connecting hoses and power)
  • Educate riders on how to use the equipment correctly
  • Working in teams to tow trailers from site to site

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • Great customer service
  • Ability to tow a trailer or comfortable driving a 3 tonne truck
  • Comfortable lifting heavy objects (approx. <10kg) and performing manual labour
  • Not afraid to get your hands dirty (or wet!)
  • Be available to volunteer for the full event (10 days)
  • Comfortable with camping accommodation
  • Comfortable volunteering up to 8 hours
  • Agree to attend a pre event training session

Team Outline

Time Size: 60 volunteers

Work location: On event campsites – you’ll be working under marquees

 

What we do

We create a fun and friendly atmosphere so all ride participants can enjoy their meals morning and night. We provide the riders with the energy to keep going!

 

Key event tasks

  • Create a positive dining experience for ride participants
  • Scan passports and direct ride participants to the serving bays
  • Assist the chefs with distribution of meals and back-of-house duties
  • Maintain a clean and hygienic serving area
  • Assist in setting-up and packing-up the catering area

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • Great customer service
  • Fun and friendly attitude
  • Comfortable lifting items (approx.<10kg)
  • Safe food  handling certificate an advantage
  • Be available to volunteer for the full event (10 days)
  • Comfortable with camping accommodation
  • Comfortable volunteering up to 8 hours
  • Agree to attend a pre event training session

Eco Team

Eco Team

 

Join the Eco Team on this year’s RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride!

                            

Team Outline

Required dates:28th Nov to 7th Dec

Time Size: 15 volunteers

Work location: Outside on event campsites

 

What we do

We’re the eco earriors for the event and we want to make sure each campsite is left better then when we arrived. We provide the facilities and education to make it easy for the ride participants to keep the sites clean and green!

 

Key event tasks

  • Place bins around each campsite.
  • Monitor bins and empty when necessary to avoid overfilling.
  • Educate riders on the importance of disposing of their rubbish correctly
  • Where required, help pick up litter and recyclables
  • Pack-up equipment and transport to the next campsite

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • Ability to tow a trailer an advantage
  • Not afraid to get your hands dirty
  • Comfortable being on your feet all day
  • Be available to volunteer for the full event (10 days)
  • Comfortable with camping accommodation
  • Comfortable volunteering up to 8 hours
  • Agree to attend a pre event training session

Happy Helpers

 

Join the Happy Helpers on this year’s RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride!

                            

Team Outline

Required dates:28th Nov to 7th Dec

Time Size: 12 volunteers

Work location: On campsite – mostly undercover, inside the Information Hub

 

What we do

We’re the fun and friendly Happy Helpers and it’s our job to keep the riders informed about what’s happening and where things are on event. We work in the Information Hub assisting with lost property, sales and any other general enquiries!

 

Key event tasks

  • Keep the information boards up-to-date with campsite maps and local information
  • Welcome and register riders on their first day
  • Reunite riders with their lost property
  • Assist with the coordination of luggage and unloading of SAG bikes
  • Help direct riders to event facilities

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • Comfortable lifting various objects (approx. < 5kg)
  • Great customer service
  • Fun and friendly attitude
  • Experience using cash registers and computers an advantage
  • Be available to volunteer for the full event (10 days)
  • Comfortable with camping accommodation
  • Comfortable volunteering up to 8 hours
  • Agree to attend a pre event training session

Services Team

Services Team

 

Join the Services Team on this year’s RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride!

                            

Team Outline

Required dates:28th Nov to 7th Dec

Time Size: 8 volunteers

Work location: Outside on the event campsites

 

What we do

We are seldom seen but work hard to make sure the campsite is set up and ready to go with power and water. We work across the campsites to ensure there is a sufficient supply of power and water for the different campsite areas and that the relevant equipment is functional, accessible and being used correctly.

 

Key event tasks

  • Setting up and packing down generators and connecting power where required
  • Setting up and packing down portable water tanks and connecting hoses
  • Keeping the water tanks filled and generators running throughout the event
  • Providing technical knowhow to other teams
  • Troubleshooting power and water issues

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow directions from the team leader
  • Not afraid to get your hands dirty (or wet!)
  • Knowledge of power distribution and electrical and water connections
  • Current driver’s license (Medium Rigid licenses an advantage)
  • Comfortable lifting heavy equipment (approx. 15-20kg) and performing manual labour
  • Be available to volunteer for the full event (10 days)
  • Comfortable with camping accommodation
  • Comfortable working long hours with an expectation of at least a minimum of 8
  • Agree to attend a pre event training session

Volunteer Support

Volunteer Support

 

Help us run Volunteer Support on this year’s RACV Great Victorian Bike Ride!

                            

Team Outline

Required dates:28th Nov to 7th Dec

Time Size: 10 volunteers

Work location: Outside on the event campsites, mostly under marquees

 

What we do

We are the Volunteer Support Team and our job is to create an inviting area for all volunteers to come and relax during their time off. We are always there to help with a kind word or a helping hand – we’re the ones making sure all the vollies are having a good time!

 

Key event tasks

  • Keep volunteers up-to-date with what’s happening (meetings, rest day activities, etc.)
  • Set-up an area for volunteers to unwind and relax
  • Register volunteers on the first day and provide uniform, name badge, etc.
  • Collect lunches from the lunch stop and provide to the entire event team during the day
  • Assist the Live Easy Tents Team in setting up tents
  • Ensure volunteers have boarded the correct transport to the next campsite
  • Coordinate transport and organise activities for the rest day

 

Requirements and Commitments

  • Ability to follow direction from the team leader
  • Ability to listen and engage comfortably with others
  • A friendly and approachable nature
  • Great customer service skills
  • Comfortable with lifting equipment (approx. <10kg)
  • Be available to volunteer for the full event (10 days)
  • Comfortable with camping accommodation and unpredictable weather
  • Comfortable volunteering up to 8 hours (with breaks)
  • Agree to attend a pre event training session
