Water Station Attendant

 

Provide water and more importantly support to the participants as they make their way along the course and at the finish line. Duties include set up of station with tables and layers of cups to start, restocking water, encouraging participants, and picking up empty cups, replacing garbage bags as needed. Some lifting required (5 gallon water jugs) and standing for a period of time.

The Salvation Army provides shelter and rehabilitation programs to 150 people 365 days a week at our Main Campus at 417 Rutherford Street.  These residents often to not have appropriate coats for winter weather, which is a health concern.  We are reliant upon the community's generosity to help supply them with coats so that they may continue on their daily tasks of going to work, seeking employment, and more with the appropriate attire. 

You can help us provide this service by conducting a Coat Drive at your church, business, subdivision, school, etc.

The Salvation Army provides a Food Pantry to help Greenville County families in need, which is 100% reliant on food donations from the community.

Group Meal Providing and Serving - All Main Campus Program Residents

Designed specifically for church or civic groups (one group - no more than 15 volunteers total please), this volunteer opportunity is for interested parties to:

  • Cook and serve a meal for the 150-175 individuals in The Salvation Army's Women's & Children's Refuge Shelter, Men's Refuge Shelter, the Men's Rehabilitation Program, and the homeless.  This is a special event for these families to enjoy a specially prepared meal from the community.  Normally, meals are served in The Salvation Army's Dining Hall on campus.
  • Meals will be served in the Church Building using the fellowship hall and the church kitchen.  Please remember to limit the number of volunteers - there is limited space.
  • Meals must be prepared before arrival.  You may use the oven or microwave to warm dishes.
  • We ask that your group provide ice, drinks, cups, paper plates, napkins, and plastic ware.
  • The group is responsible for kindly ensuring that all spaces used are left in the order in which they were found.

Summary of Essential Job Functions

Complete confidential and accurate client entry into web-based Homeless Management Information System.  There are numerous steps and a lot of information that needs entered and updated, which requires thinking with each entry.  There are many different aspects of this database and entering to learn.  While using this database and entering client information, a person must be willing and able to categorize information into the selections provided.  Other important qualities include being detailed, organized, and willing to ask questions. 

 

Minimum Requirements

18 years old

Completed Volunteer Application

Background Check Cleared

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Computer experience

Successful completion of the on-line Blood Borne Pathogen test.

Able to look at the computer screen for periods of time

Serve Meals in the Dining Hall

Feed a hungry individual and make a difference.  


Every day The Salvation Army is making an impact and helping Greenville County become a little better by changing one life at a time. You can help by volunteering to serve meals for homeless/hungry individuals.

The Salvation Army prepares and serves 400 - 700 meals daily and houses up to 140 individuals in three residential programs: Substance Abuse (CSRC Program) for Men; Homeless Shelter for Men; Homeless Shelter for Women & Children.


Breakfast is served from 6:00 am to 7:30 am; lunch from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm and dinner from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at The Salvation Army Mary S. Davidson Dining Hall located at 417 Rutherford Street, Greenville (next to WYFF4 TV Station). 

Opportunities are available for one-time or on-going.

Grounds Beautification

The Salvation Army provides shelter and rehabilitation programs to 150 people 365 days a week at our Main Campus at 417 Rutherford Street.  With your help, we can ensure that the campus is attractive to those seeking our assistance and temporarily living in our Shelters.  

Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own landscaping or yard tools.  Also, please bring gloves.  The landscaping materials will be provided by The Salvation Army or donated from a local nursery, or the volunteer group may offer to pay for these materials.

Once you sign up, you will be contacted to determine the dates, times, and size project for you or your group.
