Christmas Dinner

2014 Drivers to Deliver Christmas Meals

We need a total of 125 drivers on Christmas Day to delivery meals to older &/or disabled adults. The Volunteer Director will schedule 25 drivers (total drivers - 150) every fifteen minutes at 11:00 am, 11:15 am, 11:30 am, 11:45 am, and Noon. Drivers will come to 101 W. Linwood, KCMO 64111 to the outiside garage, get a packet of addresses and then will go across the sidewalk to pick up food.

Background checks are a MUST for the driver and everyone over 18 years of age in the car.  A cleared Motor Vehicle Registration is required for the driver. A signed release form stating you are responsible for all parties in your vehicle and a copy of your proof of insurance card will be necessary before you pick up your delivery assignment.

 Salvation Army is asking all volunteers to complete the on line Safe From Harm Training.  As Volunteers sign up for this position, instructions for completing the on line training will be e-mailed to each volunteer.  On line training is simple and will take about an hour or less to complete. This training is good for four (4) years.

All information is private and not shared with other people or agencies. You must have a letter or e-mail of confirmation to drive...it is your ticket to serve. 

Confirmation will be sent to you before the event by the Volunteer Department. Please be sure to take someone with you when you drive to delivery meals.  A friend or family member is acceptable.

This position is for individual volunteers over the age of eighteen who are accompanying Christmas meal drivers. Background checks and an online Safe From Training are required.  This event occurs on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25, 2014.

We will NOT pair Assistant Drivers with Drivers.  Please have your assistants selected at sign up time.

2014 Driver Assistants under the Age of 18

Anyone under the age of 18 who is planning to accompany a driver must please fill out an application on line so that we know who's car you will be in.  You are must be accompanied by adult over 18 in order to go into individual houses.

2014 Dining Room Set Up

Volunteers are needed to help set tables with dinnerware and silverware, along with cups and napkins. Nine volunteers are needed from 9-11 am at 101 W. Linwood, Kansas City, MO 64111. on Christmas Day, 12/25/12.  You will be on your feet the entire time.  Wear appropriate shoes; clothes you will not mind getting food on. 2014 Dishwashers

Volunteers are needed to help wash pots and pans during Christmas Dinner and put items into the dishwasher. Three dishwashers are needed on Thursday, December 25, 2014 from 10:30 to 2 pm. You will be on your feet the entire time.  Wear appropriate shoes; clothes you will not mind getting dirty.

2014 Liquid Bucket Dumper

Two volunteers are needed to dump buckets of liquid from left over beverages at the Christmas Dinner on Tuesday, December 25th, 2012 at 101 W. Linwood, Kansas City, MO 64111. You will be on your feet most of the time.  Wear appropriate shoes; clothes you will not mind getting food/beverage on.  This volunteer will need to be able to lift a 5 gallon bucket that is half to three quarters full.

2014 Set Up Tables and Chairs for Christmas Dinner

 

This is a great activity for an athletic team.

We need ten volunteers to set up tables and chairs on Tuesday, December 23, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. for our Christmas Dinner. You will be on your feet the entire time.  Wear appropriate shoes. 2014 Trash Pullers

Two volunteers are needed to pull trash and replace trash cans with liners when they get full at 101 W. Linwood, KCMO 64111 on Christmas Day. 2014 Turkey Deboning

We need 35 turkey carvers to help de-bone turkeys after they are cooked. This is set for Tuesday, December 23, 2014 beginning at 1:00 p.m. You may be on your feet the entire time or sitting.  Wear appropriate shoes; clothes you will not mind getting food on. This will be the only volunteer event in Kansas City where you are asked to bring a sharp knife with you and....You will be allowed to keep it!

Christmas Food Basket Assembly

We need a total of 20 people on Saturday,   December 20, 2014 for this job.  Because of safety issues, we want every volunteer registered. No children under 12 years of age will be allowed to participate. Toddlers and infants should not attend this event.

Directions and maps will be provided. The location to pick up the gifts, maps and directions is: DHQ Salvation Army, 3637 Broadway, KCMO 64111 (Free Parking provided at the back entrance on Central Street).

Drivers will transport their assistant drivers and a small gift to designated addresses.  The real gift is your presence.  The gift will be small and insignificant, but enough to let our clients know Salvation Army remembered them at Christmas.

Background checks are a MUST for the driver and everyone over 18 years of age in the car.  A cleared Motor Vehicle Registration is required for the driver. A signed release form stating you are responsible for all parties in your vehicle and a copy of your proof of insurance card will be necessary before you pick up your delivery assignment. It will be scanned on site before you pick up your gifts & maps.

Community Service Worker

Support Staff for (almost) any office

These special volunteers come to The Salvation Army as volunteers via the justice system.  Violent crimes, sex crimes, repeated drug offenders, crimes of theft are unable to complete their community service hours with The Salvation Army due to the vulnerable populations we serve. Client safety is a number one priority.  All community service workers MUST make contact with the Volunteer Director before signing up.

Project Warmth

2014 Distribution of Coats and Blankets

Distribution help to give bags of coats and blankets to agencies that have applied to receive them. Snacks and beverages  will be provided. Warehouse setting. Dress in layered clothing. You will be on your feet; non slip shoes are a must.

IF you are coming for the all day event, pack your lunch.  We will have snacks and drinks.  If you are coming for the second day, be prepared to get a cancelation phone call.  We may get finished with all the distributions the first day!

2014 Drop Days for Project Warmth

On Saturday, November 8, 2014 from 3-7 p.m., 150 volunteers are needed to unload 10-12 semi-trucks of donated coats and blankets and separate them into piles of women, men's children's coats, new items and blankets. When items have been sorted, bags of 5 items will be packed and stacked. Location is to be announced. Dinner and beverages will be provided.

December 13th

On Friday, December 12, 2014 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. or when project is completed. 50 volunteers are needed to unload a truck of donated coats and blankets and separate them into piles of women, men's children's coats, new items and blankets. When items have been sorted, bags of 5 items will be packed and stacked. Location is to be announced.  This is a warehouse, dress in layers.

These are excellent activities for youth 12 and over, families (NO TODDLERS OR BABIES) and groups of most any size.  This is a BIG job that must be complete in a short period of time.
