Activity Summary:

The Salvation Army's Angel Tree Program allows local businesses, groups, organizations, and individuals to buy gifts for children in need throughout Chicago to open on Christmas Day.

We are looking for volunteers who can help us sort toys by age and gender and pack them up to go to local children to open on Christmas day.

Volunteers are needed December 15th-19th.

Online Red Kettle Fundraiser

Activity Summary:

The Red Kettle Campaign is The Salvation Army's largest annual fundraiser. We collect 70% of our annual funds during these 6 weeks.

We are looking for some interested volunteers who are comfortable calling community members and encouraging them to donate into Chicago Temple's online Red Kettle.

Volunteers will be trained and informed about The Salvation Army's mission, current work in the community, where the funds will be going, and how the individual can contribute to the online red kettle.

We are looking for volunteers to make these calls during the week of November 17th through the 21st and the week of December 1st through 5th. Volunteers will be needed between the hours of 9am and 4pm. Volunteers can help for an hour or an entire day!

Maintenance

Activity Summary:

Help keep our grounds and gardens green and healthy! We are seeking an experienced landscaper, who will be responsible for the weekly management of the grounds. Your skills must include lawn care (cutting and trimming) and edging. You'll also plant flowers and water everything as needed.

You service will help keep our location welcoming and bright so we can continue to provide services to our community.

Facilities Assistant

Activity Summary:

Help us create a clean, safe, and attractive environment for everyone who enters our doors.

Under the supervision of our Facilities Coordinator the facilities assistant will help keep our location clean and updated so we can continue to provide services to our community.

Responsibilities include floor maintenance, vacuuming, emptying trash, and occasional event setup. We'll also ask your help in keeping an eye out for bigger beautification projects that might interest a large group of volunteers.

Volunteers can help Monday-Friday from 9am-4pm. We are willing to work with your schedule.

Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older
  • Must be able to comfortably lift 30lbs
  • Reliable, professional and hard working
  • Pass initial screening process

Policies:

Alcohol, drugs and smoking are not permitted at any Salvation Army Facilities or volunteer site.

Activity Summary:

Volunteers will be responsible for imputing data from hard copies into our online system. Job must be performed at Chicago Temple Corps Community Center. 

This position requires long periods of sitting and typing. The work environment for this position has a minimal noise level.

Volunteers are needed Monday through Friday from 9am – 4pm. We would like a 10 hour a week commitment. 

Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older
  • Able to work independently
  • Ability to manage confidential client information
  • Possess computer literacy and typing skills
  • Pass background check

Policies:

Volunteers need to be willing to undergo a background check and initial screening process.

Food Pantry Assistant

Activity Summary:

Join us in welcoming and directing clients to our food pantry. Volunteers will check the client forms, help distribute goods and ensure clients get the correct items. 

The food pantry assistant will will greet clients and explain how the food pantry operates. Duties include, but are not limited to, qualifying shoppers, assisting in collecting food, bagging groceries, and stocking shelves.

Volunteers are needed Tuesday and Thursday from 11am-1pm. Volunteers are welcome to sign up for one or multiple shifts!

Food Pantry Stocker

Activity Summary:

Every other week our food pantry delivery arrives. The driver is able to take it on the truck, but we are needing a volunteer who can unpack, sort, and stock our food pantry shelves.

We are looking for a volunteer to help every other Wednesday at 11am until the shipment has been put away.

The Salvation Army Chicago Temple Corps is looking for a grant writing super star!

The ideal candidate is someone who can help the organization with research to identify grants and then complete and submit the applications within deadlines. We’re looking for someone who has experience and loves writing to assist us in exceeding our fundraising goals. We are flexible with hours, but need someone who is reliable, consistent and has incredible accuracy and an excellent eye for detail.

We have an upcoming Fall Festival Event at the end of October that we will need volunteers to assist with game set up and break down. Volunteers will be needed to oversee the games while the children play.

Youth Work Volunteers

Activity Summary:

We are looking for a dedicated, cheerful, and compassionate youth outreach assistant to be a part of our Character Building program.

Volunteers will assist with the weekly activity which can range from gym and sports activities, arts and crafts projects, and other enriching activities. 

Qualifications:

  • 18 years or older
  • Passion for helping youth
  • Must support The Salvation Army’s mission
  • Must be able to work well with others
  • Must be able to pass a background check

 Policies:

Due to the population the volunteers will be working with, volunteers will need pass pass a background check and fill out the Safe From Harm Application packet. Once the volunteer has been cleared, they will need to complete our Safe from Harm online training within 90 days of starting.
