The Salvation Army - Elgin

Bell-Ringing (Red Kettle Campaign) - Volunteer Bell Ringer Big Lots (Elgin)

Activity Summary:

Greet holiday shoppers and help spread the joyful Christmas spirit.

We are looking for individuals to generously donate their time by ringing bells next the famous red kettles. As a Bell Ringer, you will be a part of the tradition that represents hope and joy to many throughout your community. Whether you're with a friend, family, co-workers or classmates, all are welcome at any of our hundreds of kettle locations. The funds collected help provide food, clothing and emergency assistance to our neighbors all year round.

Big Lots is located at 204 S. Randall Rd. Elgin 60123. We encourage 2-hour shifts from 10am to 8pm.

  • 16 years or older (younger volunteers are permitted with supervision)
  • Passion for helping our community
  • Must be polite, cheerful and reliable.

We ask volunteers to arrive at the location about ten minutes before their shifts begins. A Salvation Army employee will drop off the kettle, sign, bell, and apron at the designated location.

We welcome you to sign up for as many shifts and locations as you would like, but we ask that you please uphold your commitment

Alcohol, drugs and smoking are not permitted during volunteer hours.

Clothing must be respectful as you will be representing The Salvation Army. Pants and shirts must cover the waistband. Tank tops, undershirts, halter tops, crop tops, spaghetti straps and strapless tops are not permitted. Shirts with print are not to be offensive.
