Chicago Marathon Activities

Activity Start Date End Date Status
Chicago Marathon Pink Cheer Zone

Come out to Komen Chicago's - Chicago Marathon Pink Cheer Zone!

We want to shower all the marathon runners with Pink Komen love and support when they run through our PINK Cheer Zone!  We especially want to cheer on our almost 100 runners who are running for Komen!  These individuals have collectively fundraised over $100k in support of ending breast cancer!

The Pink Mile is located between Mile 21 & 22 of the 26.2 mile marathon.  So we are in the final stretch of the race and it's so important that we give the runners all the motivation they need to finish!  We can't do this without the help of volunteers!

Date: Sunday, October 10th
Location: Corner of Cermak and Wentworth (In Chinatown - we are sharing our zone with the Chinatown cheer zone)
Who Can Volunteer? - Everyone is invited to attend!  We welcome families and children!  (Children under the age of 14 must be supervised by a parent or guardian.)

Time Shifts & Job Activity -
Come at anytime between 8am-2pm.  Suggested time for majority of runners passing this area is 11am-1pm.

Other -
- Volunteers will receive a pink flag and pink hand towel (limited quantities)
- Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes and shoes.  Pink and/or Komen clothes is even better!
- Please keep in mind when signing up that there is limited parking in the area and road closures due to the marathon.  Check the maps/routes prior to travel.  We suggest taking the CTA Red Line and getting off at Cermak.  The cheer zone is right off the train!
- Volunteers are welcome and encouraged to make posters at home and bring them with!  If you can't make it to the event but want to make posters, feel free to arrange a time to drop off ones you have made.  This is a great way for youth to get volunteer hours!

Group Volunteers-
If you are a group that wants to volunteer for this.  We are also looking for bands and cheerleading groups. Please email volunteer@komenchicago.org for more details.

Activity Start Date End Date Status
Carson's (Edens Plaza in Wilmette)

As one of Komen's national sponsors, Wacoal invites women around the country to "Step into the Ring" and join the fight against breast cancer.  They regularly host "Fit for the Cure" events at department stores where they encourage shoppers to let a Wacoal fit specialist help them determine their true bra size.  For every woman who participates, Wacoal donates $2 to Susan G. How can volunteers help?
Volunteers who sign up to help will go around the stores passing out flyers to shoppers encouraging them to get a bra fitting. The more fittings, the more money we raise, so outreach is very important!  Volunteers may also help distribute materials about Susan G.
