Library Technician Unpaid Digitization Internship

Description: Assist library staff with the scanning and digitization of City documents to be included in an online database.  Interns will input metadata for documents.

Requirements:

  • General computer knowledge
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Detail-oriented, accurate & ability to work independently
  • Ability to handle fragile materials
  • Metadata creation and entry
  • Performs digitization post-production and quality control

 

Availability: 4-8 hours weekly. Mondays – Fridays, schedule to be arranged

Local History Assistant

Assist with local history projects one or two hours per week. Projects may include filing, research, inventory.

Morning Assistant

Prepare the Library for opening: turn on computers, display newspapers on rods, organize magazines. Duties will last about 1 hour and must be accomplished before noon on Monday-Fridays and before 10 a.m. on Saturdays.

Currently we need a volunteer for Friday mornings at 10:30 a.m.

Opportunities for Teens

Local History Teen Docent

Teens age 12 and up learn about Sierra Madre's history and make presentations to small groups of the public using the digital storyboards on display at the Library and Richardson House.

Summer Reading Teen Volunteer

Teens who will be entering 7th grade or up in the Fall are eligible to apply.

As summer reading volunteers, the teens will help younger students sign up for the reading program and award prizes. This is a good opportunity to earn community service credit for school and scouting programs.

Teens will be required to attend an orientation and must submit a waiver signed by a parent/guardian before beginning the volunteer program.

The Summer Reading Program runs from Monday, June 9,2014 - Saturday, August 2, 2014.
