Purpose of Job:

Create a positive learning environment where the children learn sportsmanship, fundamental skills, teamwork, and responsibility.

 Job Description:

Programs emphasize skill development, fair play, teamwork, cooperation, sportsmanship, responsibility, and fun. Each participant should be provided the opportunity to play in every game, and play different positions on the field/court.

 Qualifications:

• Have a desire to work with children, enthusiasm, patience, organization, maturity, dependability, and be responsible.

• Be 18 years old or High School Senior

• Be available at the times when games, practices, and meetings are held.

 Requirements:

• Complete volunteer application and attend the necessary coaches meetings.

• Regular attendance at scheduled practices and games.

• Regular attendance at parent/coaches meetings upon notification.

• Communicate program information to parents and players.

• Hold a pre-season parent meeting.

Volunteer

A community center volunteer is one who volunteers to help the Corps with on/off center activities and programs. The community center volunteer will be in direct contact with all individuals involved in center programs. They may also answer phones, assist with intake, and monitor on/off center activities.

Preferred Talents and Abilities: Must be able to serve others where needed with compassion and enthusiasm.

Food Pantry

Food Pantry Worker

A Food Pantry Worker is one who volunteers to help organize and stock the shelves of the Corps pantry with food, which may include: shopping, loading and unloading, stacking food in boxes or on shelves while tracking expiration dates of the pantry inventory. The Food Pantry Worker may serve by preparing Food Baskets for those in need. They may also serve by answering phones or speaking casually with clients. Preffered Talents and Abilities: Craftsmanship , serving, helps others, good physical condition, ability to lift canned goods, serving others where needed with compassion and understanding for their situation.

General Volunteer

Beautification and Maintenance Facility Support

Help us create a welcoming, clean, safe, and attractive environment for everyone in the community who enters our doors!

We need a dedicated and organized individual to perform the tasks that will make our facility a place that everyone can be proud of! Responsibilities include floor maintenance, vacuuming the Chapel, emptying the trash, and decorating (in consultation with the supervisor). We'll also ask your help in keeping an eye out for bigger beautification projects that might interest a large group of volunteers.

Candidates must be 21 years of age or older, and are required to clear our criminal background check. You must be able to lift at 30 pounds. Successful candidates must complete our Safe From Harm training.

Donut Day Fundraiser

Join us in our fight against hunger! Every year during the Spring Hunger Campaign, The Salvation Army raises funds on Chicagoland's busy street corners. The two-day event is called "Donut Day," in remembrance of World War I, when The Salvation Army distributed hearty donuts and coffee to the exhausted soldiers in the trenches of the battlefields. Funds raised during "Donut Day" support The Salvation Army's many social service programs. 

You must be 18 years of age or older to apply. We're looking for positive, upbeat, and engaging people who understand the ministry of The Salvation Army sufficiently to answer articulately the questions of prospective donors. You must be honest and able to work well with others. You must be able to stand for hours at a time. Successful candidates will be required to consent to a criminal background check, and be able to lift 20 pounds.
